What I wish was different

The salary; I feel that the amount of stress and responsibility the job encompasses is disproportional to the amount of pay that we receive.

January - July 2019 • Lima, OH

What I liked

This job provided valuable experience within the emergency department that I am still using to build upon as I learn in medical school now. I was able to view the entire process of being a physician, from patient care to decision making to the demands of documentation. I was also able to see the different roles of the health-care team first-hand, which helped me decide which path to pursue, between CNP, PA-C, and MD/DO.

What I wish was different

Advice

If you are considering medical school and the path to becoming a physician, I highly recommend this experience. Having the hands-on knowledge from this job and learning about specific disease processes as a byproduct of the job help you learn in a more effective manner when you reach medical school in your courses. It helps solidify connections in your mind and provides a basic foundation of what you may encounter in your courses, allowing you build on it and learn in a deeper manner rather than attempting to learn what the diseases are in the first place and start from ground zero.
